About Music Therapy

As per the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA), music therapy is defined as:

“an established health profession in which music is used within a therapeutic relationship to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals. “

Music Therapy can be a powerful and meaningful tool to aid in deeper connections within oneself and others. It addresses various goals and needs of an individual and group by the facilitation of interventions. Music therapy relies on evidence-based practices executed by academically and clinically trained music therapists.

Music Therapy can help an array of needs and goals. A few are mentioned below:

Communication

Self-Care

Sensory Perception

Grief & Loss

Motor Movement

Quality of Life

Healthy Expression

Sense of Self

Pain Management

“Songs express who we are and how we feel, they bring us closer to others, they keep us company when we are alone. They articulate our beliefs and values, and they bear witness to our lives. Songs weave tales of our joys and sorrows, they reveal our innermost secrets, and they express our hopes and disappointments, our fears and triumphs. They are our musical diaries, our life stories. They are the sounds of our personal development.”
